Lancaster Castle

Lancaster Castle stands alongside Lancaster Priory in the centre of Lancaster.

This impressive, mediaeval castle is most famous for being the place where the Pendle Witches were brought to trial and sentenced to death. Indeed, it is still used as a prison today: one of Europe's oldest.

Today, the castle enhances the skyscape of historic Lancaster and is a popular visitor attraction. Locals love to gather here to watch the city's firework display each Bonfire Night.

The Castle is open to the public, but visitors are advised to check opening times by ringing 01524 64998.
