Welcome to VR Lancaster.

Lancaster is a small, beautiful, historic city in the North West of England. It is only a half hour drive from the Lake District and ten minutes from the coast, at Morecambe Bay.

Lancaster lies on the River Lune and is Lancashire's most northerly city. Lancaster is well served by transport systems - it is just to the west of the M6, lies on the A6 and Lancaster Canal and the main westerly railway line runs through it: south to London and north to Scotland.

Lancaster has an infamous history: it made much of its wealth in the nineteenth century from the slave trade and the imposing Lancaster castle is where the Pendle witches were tried in 1612. The castle is still a working prison.

These days, Lancaster draws people from south Cumbria and north Lancashire to shop in its pedestrianised streets and markets. Moreover, many students from all over Britain and the world come to the area to attend Lancaster University, south of the city at Bailrigg campus, or the University of Cumbria (the latest name for S.Martin's College). Lancaster University is one of the top research universities in the country and the University of Cumbria is the largest provider of teacher training in Britain.
Many students love the area so much that they choose to stay here to work and raise their families. Lancaster has many very popular schools and some good cultural entertainment, including theatres and a large Arts community.

Lancaster is surrounded by spectacularly beautiful countryside: Morecambe Bay to the west, the Lake District to the north and the delightful Lune valley and Forest of Bowland to the east. Here, you can find working farm land, punctuated by small villages, woods, fells and moorland, a close rival to the beauty of the Lake District, but with with very few tourists.
